Jake Luginbuhl is a history teacher based in Virginia who focuses on American History, with an emphasis on Constitutional Rights and Political Science. He has been active in academia for 12 years and has taught more than 130 students each year for 9 of those years. He works to help students understand their civic responsibilities, rights, and their role in society. He has experience in behavior modeling, group instruction, leadership development, faculty collaboration, and peer evaluation. He strives to create classrooms that encourage student growth, engagement, and respect. Luginbuhl currently teaches Social Studies at the Virginia Department of Juvenile Justice in Bon Air. After starting in this role, he implemented classroom management strategies that reduced disruptions and created a positive learning environment. His lessons are structured to address the different academic needs of his students. He began his career as a K-12 substitute teacher in a Virginia county public school system. For more than three years, he followed lesson plans, reinforced instruction, maintained classroom discipline, and traveled to 10-plus schools across the county as needed. He later became the district’s New Teacher Co-Coordinator, where he organized orientation sessions, led monthly meetings, and mentored first-year teachers both in and out of the classroom. He then taught Social Studies in the same county for nine years. He focused on building classrooms grounded in communication and respect while designing lessons that encouraged students to observe, question, and explore social studies topics. He differentiated instruction to support learners at all levels. Beyond the classroom, Jake served as class sponsor, assistant wrestling coach for two years, BETA club co-sponsor, DECA club advisor and judge, robotics team coach, and emcee. He was recognized as Teacher of the Month in November 2016 and May 2019 and helped establish a Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter at his school. From 2021-2025, he sponsored a girl in Thailand and organized a disc golf fundraiser in October 2025. He also volunteered in a community Living Nativity event. Jake Luginbuhl earned a Bachelor of Arts in History, completed his Postbaccalaureate Teacher Licensure in Education, and attended a professional institute in Williamsburg that has trained over 34,500 educators.
